Famine Declared in Sudan
Mali is experiencing a prolonged crisis, made worse by regional instability. Ranked 188 out of 193 on the Human Development Index, the country faces development, poverty, and climate change challenges. These are compounded by natural disasters, rising costs, reduced availability of basic necessities, food insecurity, and limited access to clean water. Malnutrition remains a serious public health problem: 11.6% of the population is acutely malnourished, and 24.8% of children are suffering from impaired growth and development (stunting).
Our health and nutrition program supports over 220 health facilities, runs mobile clinics, and has created breastfeeding and nutrition support groups. We treat malnourished children and provide nutritional supplements to prevent deficiencies, among other measures, to improve children’s health.
We help improve access to clean water and sanitation by building and rehabilitating water supply systems, distributing emergency water, and constructing latrines. We distribute agricultural kits, seeds, food assistance, vouchers, and cash transfers. We also run programs to improve financial empowerment and social inclusion, risk and disaster management, and gender equality through women’s empowerment groups and access to agricultural land.
