Famine Declared in Sudan
Famine Declared in Sudan
Burkina Faso faces a severe humanitarian crisis caused by political instability, security issues, and climate shocks. In 2024, thousands of security incidents were reported, leaving 6.3 million people in need of aid, including 2.4 million who were forced to flee their homes. At least 2.7 million people are food insecure, and over 600,000 women and children are suffering from severe malnutrition. Additionally, 1.7 million people urgently need support with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
Our rapid response teams deliver essential assistance across most regions, including food assistance, shelter kits, and access to clean water. We provide emergency health services through mobile clinics, support local health centers, and run economic recovery programs. A key focus is improving maternal nutritional health services, particularly in underserved areas.
We also strengthen water and sanitation infrastructure and provide mental health and psychosocial support to help people cope with the crisis. Our programs tackle food insecurity through food distributions, nutritional supplements, and income-generation support, helping to improve living conditions and create sustainable livelihoods. We follow a resilience and development approach to enhance Burkina Faso’s capacity to manage protracted crises.
