Famine Declared in Sudan
Although the agriculture sector employs more than 60% of Nepal’s population, inadequate investment, poor infrastructure, and low productivity have led to high levels of food insecurity. Recurring natural disasters, including floods, droughts, landslides, earthquakes, and disease outbreaks, compound this situation. Approximately 20.3% of the population lives below the national poverty line, and 4.1% suffer from severe acute malnutrition.
Action Against Hunger collaborates with the Ministry of Health and Population to revise national waste management guidelines while conducting nutritional assessments. We prioritize the most vulnerable people, including pregnant and lactating women, Dalits, and those affected by disasters.
In Kispang and Aamachhodingmo, our water, sanitation, and hygiene activities provide access to sanitation facilities for over 4,000 people. In the Udayapur region, our economic resilience activities support households and create small agricultural businesses. Following the September 2024 floods, we provided cash transfers, hygiene kits, food vouchers, and shelters to 500 households.
