The State of Hunger in Honduras

More than 25% of the Honduran population requires humanitarian assistance, driven by climate shocks, poverty, and the complex needs of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Frequent floods and tropical storms force thousands to evacuate each year, resulting in significant human and economic losses. Entire communities face chronic displacement and lack adequate shelter, clean water, food security, and basic needs. Additionally, high levels of malnutrition are present across the country, requiring urgent support.

How We're Helping in Honduras

Action Against Hunger focuses on supporting migrants in transit by providing primary healthcare, nutrition services, and protection. We also provide accommodation and food in temporary shelters, cash transfers, mental health support, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.

We build capacity by providing technical assistance to health personnel in identifying and treating acute malnutrition, enabling them to evaluate tens of thousands of children. Our teams also help to restore livelihoods, increase climate resilience, and strengthen the economic empowerment of rural women in vulnerable communities in the Dry Corridor.

In 2024, Action Against Hunger launched a pilot project to promote economic inclusion by expanding supply chain connections between Honduras and Spain. We also responded to the national dengue emergency in Honduras with preventive measures to mitigate the outbreak and strengthen local response capacity.
